How do I use the chart screen in the patient record?
The treatment chart located on the patient's record under the 'Chart' tab is where you can add a patient's current base chart and plan future treatment.
๐ก Top tip: If you set a user as a practitioner, when they access any patient's record it will open on the 'Chart' tab by default. If a user is not a practitioner, it will default to the 'Details' tab when you open a patient.
Configuring the dentition
You can use the toggles in the top left of the chart screen to switch between deciduous and permanent teeth or a mixed view of both.
To understand which each toggle will show:
PD: Permanent Dentition
DD: Deciduous Dentition
Base: Enables the base chart to appear on your dentition.
These options will appear slightly differently if using the Separate (4 rows) chart display configured via your chart preferences.
PD: Permanent Dentition.
PTD: Permanent Treatment Dentition, i.e. where you chart treatment.
DD: Deciduous Dentition.
DTD: Deciduous Treatment Dentition, i.e. where you chart treatment.
๐ก Top tip: Ensure you are set up with our recommended charting method with Mixed Dentition enabled.
Configuring chart preferences
The chart settings allow you to optimise your charting experience to take your charting to the next level.
They can be accessed from either the drop-down icon next to your dentition, or a full view can be accessed from the 'Chart settings' cog โ๏ธ icon.
The settings allow you to configure features such as:
Locked chart
Combined chart
Hover chart
Viewing the treatment history of a tooth
There are multiple ways to view treatment history from your chart screen, ensuring you can find a way that works best for you.
Hovering over the tooth
Hovering your mouse over a specific tooth will show you the history of that single tooth in a tooltip on the screen - great for quickly viewing a single tooth's history.
'History' tab
Click the 'History' tab in the lower right of the chart to bring up the patient's entire clinical history.
This list can be filtered, exported, expanded and searched through as needed.
Each treatment line will have a 'TP: ****' button to the left. This lets you know which items are part of what treatment plans, and when clicked, this will open the treatment plan that the treatment item was initially recorded on.
โ
Clinical History sidebar
The clinical history side panel allows you to keep the patient's history on screen when navigating throughout the patient's record.
Exploring the treatments on your chart
Your treatment list is located on the left of the chart screen - all treatment items will appear here. The treatment list is ordered alphabetically, and can filtered and sorted in multiple ways:
Using the search box
Changing the category
Using your favourites โญ๏ธ or having them on top
Changing your 'Sort by' preference using the sort button to the right of the search bar
Using the quick link alphabet on the right to jump to a particular letter

๐ก Top tip: You can chart multiple surfaces by using the right mouse button to chart additional surfaces, after charting the first surface using the left mouse button.
Creating and configuring treatment plans
Each open treatment plan has its own tab in the patient's chart, and completed/past treatment plans can be found in the 'History' tab.
Create a new treatment plan using the '+' icon. You can then use the plan settings from the dropdown arrow to rename, clone, add appointments, reorder and take other actions.
Charging, completing and submitting treatment can be done from the bottom right of each plan. Learn more about treatment planning here.
Using the base chart
The 'Base Chart' tab on the right of the chart puts you into base chart mode, essentially allowing you to edit the patient's base dentition using the treatment list on the left of the chart. However the recommended way for documenting tooth status is by using the socket selection menu.
Using the 'BPE' tab
The 'BPE' tab will show the patient's entire basic perio exam history and is also where new BPEs can be created for the patient. We are aware this is not widely used in Canada.
Add a new BPE by clicking on the 'Record New BPE /BEWE' button.
A red marker will be shown on the tab if a BPE chart is due to be taken.
Using the Cloud Gallery and 'Images' tabs
'Images' tab
The 'Images' tab allows you to upload x-rays or images taken and save them against the patient's record. Previously uploaded images will be displayed in this tab and can be viewed, downloaded, edited, archived or deleted using the options on the screen.
The number next to the 'Images' tab reflects only the count of images in the Clinical Images tab, not the archived ones.
Cloud Gallery
The 'Cloud Gallery' works alongside Dentally Vision and will store all of your images taken through Vision directly into the cloud. This is where you can view and download images.
