What is Predictive Dentition?
Predictive Dentition automatically charts a new patient’s expected dental state based on their age. It predicts which teeth are likely present, missing, or unerupted, providing you with a head start for diagnostic base charting and treatment planning.
How to use Predictive Dentition
Navigate to a patients record and open 'Chart Preferences' ⚙️.
Scroll down to 'Age-based dentition base charting' and choose one of the following options:
Ask every time (Default): Prompts you with the option to 'Accept' or 'Undo' predictions the first time you open a new patient’s 'Chart' screen.
Automatic: Predictive charting happens automatically without prompts and cannot be undone. (Predictive charting can still be removed using the 'Delete' button from the base chart tab in the patients 'Chart').
Disabled: Predictive dentition is turned off for new patients.
If using 'Ask every time' - Next time a new patient is added, upon entering the chart screen, you’ll see a message confirming the predictive dentition where you can either:
Click OK to accept predictions and proceed with charting.
Click Undo to remove predictions and reset all teeth to present.
📝 Please note - The 'Ask every time' prompt will reappear each time you enter the chart for a new patient until you either chart against the teeth or click Undo.
This ensures that users can make informed decisions about the predictive charting before proceeding with treatments.
If using 'Automatic' - Next time a new patient is added, upon entering the chart screen Dentally will automatically chart any base information straight onto the patient's record.
All predicted changes are logged in the 'Base Chart' tab, marked with an icon ✨ for easy identification.
Your chart display will also update as part of the predictive dentition. Meaning, Deciduous, Permanent, or both dentitions will appear based on the patient’s current state. This view can be manually adjusted from the top left above the treatment list if needed.
What if the predictions are wrong?
You can make changes directly by:
Editing the chart using the socket selection options.
Base charting new information against the tooth.
Deleting information from the 'Base Chart' tab on the patient's 'Chart'.
Why is age-based predictive dentition useful?
Saves time: Eliminates the need to manually mark all unerupted or missing teeth, especially for young patients with mixed dentition or adults with retained deciduous teeth.
Reduces errors: Provides a logical starting point for charting, improving accuracy and efficiency in patient records.
Customisable: Allows users to modify or undo predictions if needed.
