📝 Please Note - This is our recommended way to setup your chart. Condensed charting + Mixed Dentition = faster, clearer charting and optimises screen space.

What is mixed dentition?

Mixed dentition refers to patients who have a combination of baby (deciduous) and adult (permanent) teeth. Dentally’s new charting tools are designed to make this process simpler and more intuitive.

How do I chart with mixed dentition?

  • Open chart preferences by clicking the cog ⚙️ icon next to your chart.

  • Enable Condensed view, This shows the chart in 2 rows (instead of 4), combining base and planned treatments.

  • Turn on 'Root view' this makes it easier to distinguish between permanent and baby teeth as well as being able to see any root charting.

  • Enable the 'Mixed dentition' this overlays permanent and deciduous teeth together in one streamlined view.

💡 Top Tips:

  • Use Predictive Dentition for new patients
Automatically shows the expected dental state based on age — no manual chart setup needed. You can easily undo or adjust with socket selection.

  • Quickly edit tooth status
If any tooth status is incorrect or if you make a mistake, use socket selection to easily amend both permanent and deciduous teeth as needed (such as changing an unerupted tooth to partially erupted).

  • Toggle PD/DD visibility
Use the ‘PD’ or ‘DD’ buttons to hide/show each tooth type as needed for clarity when charting and reviewing treatment.
