Accessing practice settings
Go to 'Settings' in Dentally.
Click 'Practice Settings'.
This article focuses on the 'Other' tab.
🚨 Important - 🔐 You must have Level 4 (Administrator) permissions to access and update Practice Settings.

🔐 Security
IP Restrictions
Although users can still be logged into Dentally from multiple devices at the same time. If practices wish to limit access you can apply IP restrictions to improve practice security:
IP Restrictions can be applied to restrict Dentally access to known locations or networks only.
This is especially useful for practices that want to prevent login attempts from untrusted locations.
Tick the checkbox to enable IP address restrictions.
Enter the public IP address(es) you'd like to whitelist. You can find your IP at whatismyip.com.
You can then manage individual user restrictions via Settings > Users.
Save your changes when done.
📝 Please note - ⚠️ You can whitelist up to 40 IP addresses.
Support Access
To receive optimal support, ensure the 'Enable Dentally support access?' is ticked to allow the Dentally Support Team to access your account. Without access, the support team may be limited in how they can help.
If you make changes, use the 'Save' button to confirm these edits.
🛠 Custom Fields & Charting
Custom Fields
Add custom fields here that appear at the bottom of the Patient Details screen.
Additional custom fields for the top right of the Patients tab can be managed under the Custom Fields tab.
Charting
Uncompleted Treatment Colour
Choose a custom colour to display uncompleted treatments:
Click the colour bar to open the picker.
Use the palette or enter a HEX code.
Click 'OK' and 'Save'.
Orthodontic Assessment Tab
Enable the Ortho tab on the Chart screen by ticking the 'Enable Ortho Assessment?' box.
Reassign Practitioner
If you wish for the assigned provider of a completed course of treatment to be set to the user completing the treatment rather than the practitioner assigned to the treatment item, you can tick the 'Reassign practitioner on completion' box.
Custom Email Domains
You can set up your own custom email domains from here, if you are on a Dentally plan that includes this feature.
🌍 Internationalisation
Set preferences specific to your region:
Currency – affects treatment and sundry pricing.
Tooth Notation – select your preferred format.
⏰ Timezone
Select your Timezone from the list of available timezones. This will affect your Practice Calendar timings.
Tax
From here you can 'Enable VAT?' this means Dentally will automatically apply VAT to selected services and sundry items.
💳 Payments
Payment locking – Enable this to prevent past payments from being deleted. (Useful when syncing with Xero.)
Auto-explain payments – Dentally automatically matches payments with unpaid invoices.
Assign payments - Allows you to assign a practitioner and payment plan when taking a payment through Dentally.
Remember to Save any changes.
Portal
This setting controls how medical history forms are pre-filled for patients using an online Dentally Portal link.
Enabled – Auto-fills from previous medical history.
Disabled – Presents patients with a blank form.
