Global updates

New: Compliant prescription workflow

For UK/ROI/NZ/CA users, we now offer dedicated prescription templates, making it easier for clinicians to create and manage prescriptions directly from the patient record, rather than using letter templates. Prescriptions can be created in โ€˜Settingsโ€™ โ†’ โ€˜Templatesโ€™ โ†’ โ€˜Prescriptionsโ€™ and generated by practitioners via โ€˜Correspondenceโ€™ โ†’ โ€˜New Correspondenceโ€™ โ†’ 'New Prescriptionโ€™, where theyโ€™re automatically saved to the patientโ€™s correspondence with a timestamp and locked after printing to preserve the issued version.

This clearer, purpose-built workflow supports safe printing, signing, and issuing of prescriptions.

Australian users should continue using the existing process.

New: Short notice enhancements

We've added several new features to the short notice filler,

  • Toggle to view only slots which have at least one match, so you can identify opportunities to action more quickly without needing to scroll. At the top of the filler, you'll also see the number of slots with matches, along with the total number of empty slots.

  • View the total number of patients currently on your short notice list - a number displays at the top of the short notice filler, and you can click it to open a dedicated report. You'll also see an indicator of whether this number is good compared to recommended best practice.

  • Easily understand what will happen before you click send, with a summary in the 'Fill slot' screen.

New: Email option for two-factor authentication (2FA)

You can now use email for one-time passcodes (OTPs) with 2FA, offering more flexibility and easier login when you might be away from your phone.

We've also improved the 2FA setup process so it's clearer and more flexible. The simplified flow makes it easier to enable and manage 2FA, so you can stay protected with minimal effort.

Improved: Image conversion report permissions

Level 4 users can now give Level 2 users access to image conversion reports, for greater flexibility. This option will only appear when an image conversion is available to view in the practice.

Improved: Font consistency

All users will now see the same font in Dentally, regardless of the device they are using. This small change ensures that we know every user is seeing the same thing - meaning if we design new features for Dentally, we know everyone will see them as intended, and text won't be cut off/difficult to view without us realising. By standardising this, we can ensure consistency for all future updates.

Improved: Charting workflows

  • Perio exams now support Furcation Grade 4, allowing clinicians to fully record clinical findings. Grade 4 is selectable, stored correctly and displayed consistently across Perio charts and patient records.

  • Pocket depths of 4mm or greater are now visually highlighted during Perio exams, making areas of concern easier to identify and supporting clearer clinical decisionโ€‘making and patient education.

Bug fixes:

  • We've improved the readability of the 'Monthly Accounts' PDF export, so that it is easier to understand and share with accounting teams.

  • If a treatment has not been given a patient-friendly name, any related appointments will now display the treatment's nomenclature, instead of 'null'.

  • When copying a clinical AI note and pasting into the patient's clinical notes, you'll no longer see raw HTML/JS code.

  • A few users were experiencing issues where transcription recordings didnโ€™t work as expected. Weโ€™ve strengthened the system behind the scenes so recordings process reliably, meaning users should no longer run into this problem.

  • In the 'Appointments' tab, if a recall due date is missing, you will no longer see a banner suggesting the recall is still due.

  • If you hover over the status icon on an appointment in the calendar, it will now correctly reflect the current status of the appointment.

UK/ROI updates

New: NHS April 1st Dental Reforms for England and Wales

We have updated various charting and claiming workflows in accordance with NHS England and Wales guidance, applicable from April 1st.

For Wales, these changes include:

  • New Care Package details when charting and claiming

  • Add lab fees and warranty details

  • Updated claim form to reflect NHS guidance

For England, these changes include:

  • Unscheduled Care replacing Urgent

  • Improved ethnicity and NHS number recording

  • Nurses may be able to chart and claim for Fluoride Varnish (on U16s)

Improved: NHS Scotland exemptions

From 1st April, three exemptions have been removed by NHS Scotland. The Income Support and income-based Job Seekers Allowance exemptions are now withdrawn. Tax Credit/Child Tax Credit exemptions were stopped last year, but NHS Scotland have only now removed them from their systems.

We have updated Dentally to reflect these three removals. You will not be able to add these exemptions to plans started since April 1st, in line with government guidance.

CA updates

New: Calculation breakdown in 'Monthly Accounts' report

In the 'Monthly Accounts' report, you can now click on certain totals to open a breakdown of exactly how this total was calculated. Totals in the 'Charges', 'Discounts', 'Adjustments', and 'Collection' columns can be drilled down, providing you with more detail so you can understand your monthly accounts more easily.

Improved: 'Nurse' role naming

The 'Nurse' user role has been renamed to 'Dental Assistant' for Canadian practices, to better align with regional terminology and remove compliance risks.

Improved: Lingual surface labelling

The tooth surface, previously labelled P (Palate), has been corrected to L (Lingual), aligning with Canadian dental standards and improving clinical charting accuracy.

Bug fixes:

  • You can now get more than one predetermination for a course of treatment, which was not possible previously.

  • If you receive an error message during the CDAnet claims process, the error message will now explain clearly what the issue is.

  • 'Recession' has been renamed to 'Gingival Margin' in Perio exams for clearer, clinically accurate charting.
