Why would I need to download unmapped or failed images?

Although the 'Image Conversion' report ensures you always have access to every extracted file from your old imaging system - some practices may still wish to download there unmapped images from the 'Image Conversion' report and manually upload these to the patients within Dentally.

This is best practice as ensures all images are visible on the patient when you view their patient record - without having to double check you 'Image Conversion' report in the future.

How to download unmapped images from the 'Image Conversion' Report

  1. Open the 'Image Conversion' Report

    1. Navigate to 'Reports' → 'Patient' report section → 'Image Conversion'

  2. Go to the 'Patient Search' section.

  3. Find or filter for unmapped patients.

  4. Click 'View' next to the patient record.

  5. Select Download All to export the images in a ZIP folder to your local machine.

The ZIP file includes all extracted images for that patient - even if they weren’t linked to a Dentally record.

What you’ll receive in your download...

  • Files are raw images from your old system.

  • No edits (rotations, flips, or filters) are applied.

  • You can then upload them manually into Dentally Vision if needed.

  • Remember to remove them from your local machine once finished.

Understanding the coloured image icons

Each image may display a small coloured icon indicating additional information:

Rotation or flip adjustments/manipulation will need to be applied during import - these are not reflected on the preview or within the downloaded files.

🟡 Yellow

Opening a patient in Dentally Vision

In the Dentally Patient section:

  • Click 'View' in 'Dentally patient' section to open that patient’s image gallery.

  • You can hover over the '#' icon to see which Dentally ID matched to the source record.

  • If your images are unmapped to a Dentally patient - after downloading the images you will need to manually navigate to the patient using the search bar in Dentally. You can then follow our guide here on uploading images to Dentally Vision.
