What is an image conversion to Dentally Vision?
Image conversion means migrating your existing 2D patient images from a previous digital imaging (DI) system into Dentally Vision. This ensures that all supported historic images are transferred into Dentally so you retain full visibility of your imaging history - along with any compatible edits. If some images cannot be matched automatically, they’ll appear in your Image Conversion report report so you can review, export and manage them manually.
Additionally, during your conversion, once at least 85% of images are successfully matched during import, the system will automatically begin the transfer to Dentally making the conversion process easy and seamless!
Am I eligible for an image conversion?
You’re eligible to use this service if:
Your practice is already using Dentally Vision.
Your previous imaging software was connected to Dentally or another practice management system (PMS), so patient identifiers can be matched.
🚨 Important: Once the conversion process begins, any new images acquired or added to your old system will not be transferred - so make sure your team stops using the legacy system and starts using Dentally Vision as soon as your conversion begins.
What is the image conversion process
Accessing your old imaging system - We extract a complete copy of all stored images from your previous DI software.
Processing images - Our tools process the images and carry over as many edits or enhancements that are compatible with Dentally Vision.
Importing images - During the conversion once 85% or more of images are matched, the system will auto-proceed with transferring your images to dentally.
Matching images to patient records - Images are automatically linked to the corresponding patient records for easy viewing with Dentally Vision.
Handling unmatched images - Any images that can’t be matched to a patient automatically will still be available for view/export in your Conversion Report.
Why some images appear as unmapped in your report
Most images will transfer into Dentally Vision automatically. When an image can’t be confidently matched to a patient, it won’t be lost - it simply appears in your Image Conversion Report as unmapped so you can review it manually. Here are the main reasons an image may not be auto-matched:
Mismatched patient details
Differences in names, ID numbers, dates of birth, or other identifiers between your old system and Dentally. No matching patient record in Dentally
For example, if the patient hasn’t been migrated yet, the system can’t link their images.Ambiguous or uncertain matches
When an image could belong to multiple patients, Dentally won’t guess - it will mark the image as unmapped for safety.
If images are in an unsupported or unusual image format they will NOT be bought over into Dentally Vision.
What’s included & excluded in the conversion
Included:
Conversion itself from extraction and matching to importing and reporting.
Image Conversion report shows percentage of mapped and unmapped images
Image Conversion report containing all unmatched images for you to review/export as needed.
Help centre content to assist you in using your Image Conversion report to manage your unmapped images.
Excluded:
3D imaging volumes - the conversion applies only to 2D image data.
Images from DI software that was not previously bridged or linked to a PMS due to patient matching not being possible in this scenario.
Unsupported annotations or image manipulations that aren’t compatible with Dentally Vision.
Any enhancements, renames, moves or copies of images that cannot be reliably identified programmatically will not be transferred.
