How to add a Patient's Health and Care number in Dentally?

Let's take a look at how you can add your patient's Health and Care number to Dentally.

The Health and Care number is known by many names from here we shall refer to it as the HCN. As of 1st October 2026 a patient must have a HCN on their details before sending their claims. CHI numbers will no longer be accepted as an alternative identification method by the NHS.

  • Find the desired patient

  • Go to their details screen

  • Scroll down to Health and Care Number

  • Enter in details

  • Click Save

  • The number will now automatically pull through onto the patient's claim form when submitting this through Dentally.
