๐ Please note: In order to take payments online, you will need to have a Stripe account enabled.
How can patients pay online?
There are several ways you can get patients to pay online - reducing the time spent on reception and the burden on your team.
Send a payment link directly from the 'Account' tab in the patient record (recommended)
Include a payment link merge tag in correspondence
Ask patients to log into the Patient Portal, view invoices and make a payment (only available if you have Dentally Portal).
Here are some important things to note about online payments:
Any link you generate and send to the patient will be for their outstanding account balance, not for an individual treatment (if your practice has Dentally Portal, the patient can edit the amount they pay, but they cannot edit it to pay MORE than they owe).
Any payment link will expire only once the patient has used it to make a payment. If they open the link and then don't continue, it will still work the next time they open it.
When a payment is made online, it will show in the patient's 'Account' tab, showing Stripe as the method.
๐ Please note: We do not take any fee from payments made online - however we aren't in control of whether Stripe will take a fee. This will depend on your direct agreement with them so we recommend checking your contract.
How do I send a payment link from the 'Account' tab?
Navigate to the 'Account' tab in the patient's record.
On the right-hand side of the account, click 'Send payment link'.
You can use the default message and click 'Send', or click 'Select template' and populate the message with a template of your choice.
The default message will include a bespoke payment link for that patient.
How do I include a payment link in correspondences such as emails?
To automatically generate a payment link in your correspondences, use the merge tag [patient_payment_link] - when included in a message, this will automatically populate with a bespoke payment link which the patient can use to pay their outstanding balance. Find out more about using merge tags in our dedicated article here.
๐ก Top tip: It's a good idea to create a correspondence template specifically for payment links - include the [patient_payment_link] data tag and your chosen wording - so you can easily send this template to patients whenever you need.
