When are task reminders sent to patients?

Task reminder SMS messages are sent to patients the day before their appointment, so SMS messages are prepared two days in advance. They can be used in conjunction with appointment reminders.

πŸ“ Please note: Practice notification texts sent to patients may incur a charge for your practice.

Patients will only receive an SMS task reminder if they:

  • have outstanding tasks to complete prior to an appointment.

  • haven't already completed those tasks 48 hours before the appointment.

  • booked their appointment more than 48 hours prior to their appointment.

  • haven't changed the date or time of their appointment within 48 hours of the new time.

πŸ’‘ Top tip: If you have a link to your Portal in your existing SMS appointment reminder templates, remove it whilst task reminders are active to reduce the number of patients logging in unnecessarily. We recommend:

  • 4 weeks before – email reminder

  • 5 days before – email reminder (with a Portal link)

  • 2 days before – SMS message ('reply to confirm')

  • 1 day – SMS task reminder
