๐Ÿ’ก Top tip: To get a patient to pay online, we recommend sending them a bespoke payment link. This is quicker and easier for the patient than having to log into their Patient Portal.

What do patients see when they make a payment online?

There are two ways a patient will be asked to pay for an appointment:

  • While they are booking an appointment online, they will be taken to the payment screen before their booking is confirmed.

  • When they have an outstanding balance for an upcoming or previous appointment, they can log into their Portal and either click on their payments, or view their outstanding invoices, and then click 'Pay now'.

๐Ÿ“ Please note: Existing patients can only see the option to pay in their Portal if they have an outstanding payment due. If they don't owe any money, they won't be able to follow the below steps to pay.

To provide a payment via Dentally Portal's payment screen:

  • The patient will see the balance they are due to pay.

  • They can then follow the steps to pay by card, or by another method such as Google Pay or Apple Pay if enabled.

  • If the patient has a gift card or promotional code, they can enter it at this stage and click 'Apply'. If valid, the discounted amount will be applied to their balance. They should then proceed to pay the remainder as above.

  • When they are ready, they can click 'Pay'.

  • The payment will be processed and confirmed from their perspective. Find out more about what happens to payments from the practice perspective here.
