How to pair a tablet device with Portal

Pairing your tablet to your Portal using a pairing code, to enable Concierge and Kiosk modes.

How do I pair a tablet with Portal to use Concierge or Kiosk?

To use Concierge mode (available now for Beta testing) or Kiosk mode (coming soon), you will need to pair your tablet to your practice's Portal.

πŸ’‘ Top tip: These modes are available on both Android and Apple tablet devices!
A tablet can only run either Concierge OR Kiosk, not both at the same time. To make the most of both features, you will need two separate tablet devices.

To do this, you will need access to both your normal work computer and your tablet device at the same time, as the steps require going between the two.

First, on your computer:

  • Open the Portal admin dashboard on your computer's browser. Please note, for multi-site practices, pairing devices is done at site level. Ensure you have toggled to the chosen site before continuing using the dropdown in the top left corner.

  • Select 'Devices' in the left-hand toolbar, then click 'Pair'.

  • Click '+ Pair device' on the right-hand side. You will then see a window like this:

  • Now open your tablet device and follow the steps below.

Next, on your tablet device:

  • Navigate to pair.portal.dental on your device's browser.

  • Follow the instructions on the page to install the app (these may vary depending on your chosen browser - it will usually look like one of the two screenshots below).

  • Open the app as you would open other apps on your device (usually, this means going to your device's home screen and tapping the app's icon).

  • In the window that appears, you'll see a unique pairing code (the screenshot below is an example - the code you see will be unique to you).

  • Now go back to the Portal admin dashboard on your main computer and follow the steps below.

Back on your work computer:

  • Enter your unique pairing code in the window in your Portal admin dashboard. Type it in exactly as it appears on your device (the screenshot below is an example - the code you see will be unique to you).

  • You can then add a nickname for the device.

  • Choose either Concierge mode (available now for Beta testing) or Kiosk mode (coming soon) - remember, you cannot choose both on a single device.

  • After entering the code, click 'Pair'. The app should now verify the code and establish a connection.

Once the pairing is successful, you will receive a confirmation message on both your tablet and in the Portal admin dashboard on your computer. Your tablet app is now paired and ready to use.

The tablet will now be linked to your practice's Dentally and Portal accounts, so all patient information will pull through automatically between the tablet and Dentally.
