🚨 Important: The 'Mixed dentition' toggle is currently in Beta testing, and is not widely available. If you can't see it yet, you will do soon.

How should I set up my chart for mixed dentition?

When charting for a patient who has a mixture of both permanent and deciduous teeth, there are a number of settings and features we recommend to make charting mixed dentition easier.

To set up your chart for mixed dentition according to our recommended best practice:

  • Click the cog βš™οΈ icon to the right of your chart to open your charting preferences.

  • Ensure 'Condensed' chart view is enabled in the chart settings - this allows you to view the chart display as two rows rather than four, with the base and planned treatments combined.

  • Turn on 'Root view' in the chart settings - this will help make dentition clearer to read, so you can more easily distinguish between permanent and deciduous teeth as well as see the root context.

  • Enable the 'Mixed dentition' toggle in the chart settings.

  • This will display both permanent and deciduous teeth on the same row.

πŸ’‘ Top tip: Charting mixed dentition for new patients is easier with predictive dentition. This automatically displays teeth according to a new patient's expected dental state based on their age, meaning you don't need to manually configure their base chart from scratch every time. Plus it's easy to undo any predictive charting in your chart settings, or to edit charting using socket selection.

Once your patient's chart is configured and any predictive dentition has been applied, double check you are happy with the configuration before continuing.

If any tooth status is incorrect or if you make a mistake, use socket selection to easily amend both permanent and deciduous teeth as needed (such as changing an unerupted tooth to partially erupted).

πŸ’‘ Top tip: You can toggle whether permanent and deciduous teeth are visible using the 'PD' and 'DD' buttons to the left of the chart. This allows you to hide one tooth type so only the other is visible, making it easier to see what you need.
