What does this error mean?

'Inappropriate treatment code used' means that there is something on the claim that is not expected.

How to resolve?

One common example we often encounter...

Is when a Band 4 claim has been submitted but includes an incomplete item as part of the claim. In this specific scenario you would need to mark item as complete or remove the item if it is not required and resend the claim.

Other ways to resolve...

NHS guidelines also state these 2 reasons and resolutions as ways to fix this claim error:

  • Ethnic origin quantity that does not equate with 01-16 or 99 - In this scenario remove or amend appropriate ethnic origin entry.

  • If an incorrect value is entered -

    • Referral for AMS 1-3 allowed

    • NICE guidance recall interval 1-24 allowed

    • FP17O IOTN 1-5 allowed

    • Aesthetic component 1-10 allowed

You can view the full NHS error code guidance on their website here. Simple search for 'Dental Activity Error Codes' to find the most up to date documentation.
