๐Ÿ’ก Top tip: Remember, the internal practice chat is different from the support chat you use to ask a question to the Dentally team!

Can I direct-message my colleagues within Dentally?

The internal practice chat feature in Dentally allows you to send messages to colleagues, which will pop up on their screen instantly - even across multiple locations. If this feature is available to you within your plan, you will see a speech bubble icon in the bottom left corner of your screen anywhere in Dentally.

How do I start a new chat?

  • Open the chat feature by clicking the speech bubble icon in the bottom left of Dentally.

  • If you have messaged people previously, their names will be listed here and you can select one to start a chat. Alternatively, click '+ New direct message' and choose the team member you wish to chat with and click 'Message' next to their name.

๐Ÿ’ก Top tip: Team members' availability status is indicated by a dot next to their name, inside the chat window. The blue dot means the user is online/currently using Dentally, while the white dot indicates they are offline.

  • If you are a multi-site, you can also select the location where the team member is based first.

  • A chat window will open in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen, showing the name of the colleague you selected.

  • You can then type your message at the bottom of the chat window. Once you hit send, your messages and any replies will be displayed above this.

  • You can minimise the chat, which will keep a tab at the bottom of your screen with the colleague's name so you can reopen it easily.

  • If you close the chat using the 'x', when you next open your direct messages, the colleague's name will show there - click it and the chat will reopen, displaying your previous chat history as well.

  • If a colleague messages you, a tab will show along the bottom with their name, and the tab will be blue.

  • You can add emojis by clicking the smiley face to the right of the text box.

  • You cannot clear or delete chat history. However, the chat history does clear automatically after 100 messages between you and that team member.
