How to run the 'Takings' report?

To cash up in Dentally, we recommend using the 'Takings' report, which shows a complete list of payments added to the system between the date range selected. Different practices may have their own ways of cashing up, so choose the method that works best for your practice.

To run the 'Takings' report:

  • Go to 'Reports' in the left hand toolbar and select 'Takings' from the Financial reports menu.

  • Work through the filters on the left-hand side of the report to ensure you are reporting on the correct specifications:

    • Select the location, or select All to see the takings across all locations

    • Adjust to the required timeframe using the 'from' and 'until' filters

    • Set whether you wish to view only explained payments or not through the explanation filter.

    • If you choose to view all you can identify explained payments via the green tick or orange question next to the amount on the report (as seen below)

    • Select the payment method as needed

  • After setting your filters the report will automatically refresh to keep up with your preferences.

Viewing your Takings report

You can use the toggle buttons across the top of the report to determine what you see on the screen in Dentally.

๐Ÿ“ Please note: Users on certain versions of Dentally will also see 'Practitioner' and 'Payment Plan' filters and columns. If the 'Practitioner' filter/column is visible, it shows the practitioner who was assigned to the payment when it was first processed (not necessarily the practitioner to whom payment should be allocated).

  • The Transaction detail toggle button shows us the breakdown of individual transactions as we see at the top of the example report below

  • The Payment method toggle button allows us to see a breakdown by each payment type. This makes it easy to see what methods are being used most often, as well as making it easy to see at the end of the day how much cash should have been collected for each method.

It also gives a total of all takings on the far right at the bottom.

To download a copy of your report you can use the 'Export' button to download a CSV spreadsheet and you can use the 'Print' button in the top right as needed.
