Before creating a PBS prescription

Before creating a prescription:

  • You must be a Practitioner

  • A Prescriber Number must be added to the practitioners profile

    • Must be 7 characters long

  • Prescriptions are automatically:

    • Created in the practitionerโ€™s name

    • Dated with the current date

How to create a PBS prescription

  1. Open the patient record

  2. Go to 'Correspondence'

  3. Click 'New Correspondence'

  4. Select 'New prescription'

  • The following fields will be pre-filled for you

    • Practitioner details

    • Patient details

    • Prescriber type

  • So you only need to proceed with completing the following

    • Pharmaceutical benefits entitlement number (numbers only)

    • Prescription items

    • Additional details

๐Ÿ“ Please note: Any required tick boxes on the PBS form must be completed manually after printing

How to print a PBS prescription

  1. Click Save & Print in the top right.

  2. A print preview will appear

To ensure correct alignment on PBS paper:

  • Open 'More settings' from the print preview screen

  • Set 'Margins' to 'None'

    • If margins are set to anything other then 'None' a black border may appear and the print may misalign.

๐Ÿ“ Please note: Dentally does not control the print settings in your browser. Chrome will default to the last applied print settings.

How to view and reprint prescriptions

  1. Open the patient record

  2. Go to 'Correspondence'

  3. Click 'View' next to the prescription you want to open

For here you can:

  • View prescription details

  • Reprint if needed

When does a PBS prescription lock?

Prescription locking ensures prescriptions cannot be changed after a certain point, supporting clinical safety and consistency.

A PBS prescription is locked:

  • Immediately when printed, or

  • After 24 hours, if not printed

Whichever comes first.

What happens when a prescription is locked?

Once locked, the PBS prescription...

  • Cannot be edited

  • Cannot be deleted

  • Cannot be changed via direct links or API

  • Can still be viewed

  • Can still be reprinted

  • First print date is recorded

How to edit a PBS prescription

You can only edit a prescription before it is locked.

To edit:

  1. Go to 'Correspondence' tab on the patient record

  2. Click 'Edit'

  3. Update fields

  4. Click 'Save & Print'

How to delete a PBS prescription

You can only delete a prescription before it is locked.

To delete:

  1. Open the prescription via the 'View' button

  2. Click 'Delete'

  3. Confirm the action

๐Ÿ“ Please note: The 'Delete' option will not appear if the prescription is locked and any deletions once confirmed are recorded in the Audit Trail.

What permissions do i need to remove PBS prescriptions?

  • Edit and delete permissions are available to all Level 4 users

  • Level 4 users can also grant access to other users via the users security settings
