NHS Scotland Changes 1st February 2022

🏥 NHS SC only - Update to NHS Scotland fees and changes to examinations.

NHS Scotland have implemented the following changes to the current SDR which will be in effect from 1st February 2022.

See below for a brief summary of all the changes you can expect.

  • Item 1 examinations will be amended so that they are claimable for all age groups with alterations to how general and orthodontic exams are specified

  • Item 2(a)(1) X-Ray, will now be claimable for all age groups

  • Item 41 child smile element will be discontinued and replaced with a simpler set of fee codes under item 42 and will be claimable for all 0-17-year-olds

  • Item 44g (Application of Topical Fluoride) will be updated to be claimable for age group 2-12

  • Additional items requested by Dental Advisers

It is important to note that the below Examination codes must not be used on treatment plans started on or after the 1st of February 2022:

  • Item 1(a) (010101) which is available to General and Ortho will be discontinued effective from 1st February 2022 and not claimable on courses of treatment started on or after the 1st February 2022.

  • Item 1(b) (011101) which is available to General and Ortho will be discontinued effective from 1st February 2022 and not claimable on courses of treatment started on or after the 1st February 2022.

There will also be a series of new Exam codes which are now claimable for patients of all ages. There are no patient charges for these codes, the practice fees are stated below. These must be used in place of the previous Examination codes on treatment plans started on or after 1st February:

New Examination codes:


0151 - Extensive Clinical Examination - (Practice Fee £14.85)
0161 - Extensive Orthodontic Examination - (Practice Fee £14.85)
0171 - Orthodontic Follow up Examination - (Practice Fee £9.95)
0181 - Clinical Examination in Connection with Trauma - (Practice Fee £9.95)

Childsmile:

The Capitation treatment codes 4101 - 4111 must not be used on treatment plans started on or after 1st February 2022.

These have been replaced with the new codes:

4201 - Childsmile annual fee SIMD 1 - 2 - (Practice Fee £18.60)
4202 - Childsmile annual see SIMD 3 - 5 - (Practice Fee £6.10)

Item 44(G) Application of topical fluoride to all tooth surfaces

Extended age group where the patient is aged 2-12 years (inclusive). This is effective from 1st February 2022 and only claimable for courses of treatment started on or after the 1st February 2022
