Where to record a BEWE in Dentally?

  • BEWE's are recorded within the BPE tab on the patient's Chart screen.

  • You can switch between BPE and BEWE tabs during the same exam.

  • If you save a BPE without entering BEWE scores, the BEWE tab will not appear when viewing that saved exam.


How to record a BEWE in Dentally?

  1. Navigate to the BPE tab on the Chart screen.

  2. Select 'Record new BPE/BEWE'

  3. Click into the BEWE tab.

  4. Enter a score (0–3 only) for each sextant.

    • Any other input will be rejected.

  5. Add any notes/comments into the Notes section if needed.

  6. Save the exam.


Viewing BEWE results

  • Cumulative score: Dentally displays the total BEWE score across all sextants.

  • Maximum possible score: Calculated as number of sextants recorded Γ— 3.

    • Example: If you record all 6 sextants, the maximum possible score is 18, in the example below you can see our score is 14/18.


What is a BEWE?

  • It's purpose is to measure how worn a patient’s teeth are.

  • You can take six readings, one per sextant of the mouth.

  • Scoring system (0–3):

    • Code 0 – No enamel tooth wear

    • Code 1 – Initial loss of enamel surface texture

    • Code 2 – Distinct defect, hard tissue loss < 50% of surface area

    • Code 3 – Hard tissue loss > 50% of surface area
