How do I configure my intra-oral camera to link to EXAMINE Pro?

Configure your intra-oral camera, including the following devices:

  • Daryou

  • Focusdent

  • KP camera

  • Prodent

  • CS1500 UVC (non-UVC version has its own interface)

  • Acteon C50 (drivers must be installed by the supplier)

  • Sopro (drivers must be installed by the supplier)

Other types of intra-oral cameras such as Carestream, Sirona and Duerr do not integrate with the WDM module and have unique setups.

๐Ÿ’ก Top tip: All of these steps must be completed on the computer the intra-oral camera will be connected to, and the camera must be functional on the computer outside of EXAMINE Pro before it can be linked to EXAMINE Pro. If the intra-oral does not work on the computer separately, you must reach out to the supplier of the device.

  • Open EXAMINE Pro.

  • Navigate to 'Options' > 'Video Still Capture'.

  • Ensure 'WDM StillCap' is ticked.

  • Click the 'Video Still Capture' button. In Examine Pro V6 this looks like a film roll.

๐Ÿ’ก Top tip: If you are prompted during configuration that 'No video capture device foundโ€™, click โ€˜OKโ€™ - this means the device is not being seen by the computer so may not be plugged in or may need additional drivers to be installed by the supplier.

  • Navigate to 'Options' > 'Device Setup'.

  • Click on the 'Expert Setup' tab.

    • Click on the dropdown menu at the top of the tab.

    • Select your device from the list.

    • At the bottom of the screen, tick 'Normal (Default)' under 'Connections'.

    • Tick 'Video Format Compatibility'.

    • Then click 'Save&Exit'.

  • Next select 'Options' > 'Device Setup'.

  • Select the 'Misc' tab.

    • Tick the 'Search for Still capture pin' option for 'Capture Format' - this can vary for different camera brands.

    • Untick all other options.

    • Click 'Save&Exit'.

  • The camera will now work in EXAMINE Pro - test taking an image to check everything is functioning correctly.

๐Ÿ’ก Top tip: The Acreon C50 button won't capture using the above method. For these you will need to:

  • Go to the EXAMINE Pro main screen.

  • 'Options' - 'Setup' - WDM module in the left.

  • Press the Hotkey tab.

  • Click in the grab box then press the End key on your keyboard. This should turn the box to #35 and will allow the button on the camera to function.

Sometimes when running this process the camera can cause errors or crash with a message about normal/combined mode failed. This is due to an issue with the configuration.

To clear the issue:

  1. Go to (C:\Program Files (x86)\SOE\ExPro\Settings or C:\Program Files (x86)\SOE\Examine Pro\Settings on Examine Pro 8.24 or later) and select ILUser.

  2. Find the heading for [ilmodWdmStillCap CONFIG].

  3. Delete everything under it to the next header.

  4. Save your changes via File - Save.

(Note Windows 11 NotePad will not save if you close the app, you need to close the Tab the .ini file loads in for it to save).

This will clear the settings and can then run the process again to reconnect the camera.
