Where do I find the note on a treatment item?
Open the patient's 'Chart '.
In the treatment plan, click the arrow next to the treatment item to expand it.
The 'Details' tab opens. The 'Notes' section is at the top.
💡 Top tip - Once an item has a note, a preview shows on the treatment item even when it is collapsed. Click the preview to open the note.
How do I write a treatment note?
Click into the ' Notes ' section and start typing.
Type / to add a template, heading, a bulleted list, a numbered list or a blockquote.
Highlight any text to see more formatting options, such as bold and italic.
Use the undo and redo arrows next to the note heading if you need to step back or forward.
How do I add a template to the note?
Click 'Template' at the top right of the 'Notes' section.
Find your template under 'Favourites', 'Personal Templates', 'Practice Templates' or 'Dentally Templates', or search for it by name.
Select the template and click ' Insert'.
The template is added to the note and you can edit it like any other text.
📝 Please note: In a treatment item note, the / menu is for formatting only. Use the 'Template' button to add templates.

How is my treatment note saved?
Your note saves automatically about every 10 seconds while you type, and again when you click away from it. You can also click the save status next to the undo and redo arrows to save straight away.
To see when the item was last saved, look for 'Last saved' at the bottom of the expanded item. If you have permission to view history, click it to open the history panel.
Can I edit the note after the treatment is completed?
Once you tick the treatment item as complete, the note will lock after 24 hours. After 24 hours, the note will be locked and can no longer be edited.
What happens if someone else edits the same note?
If another user saves the same note while you are working on it, a banner tells you who saved it and when. Your note is paused until you choose what to do.
Click ' Update ' to load the latest saved version.
Click ' Undo ' if you want to see your version again before deciding.
This can happen if the chart is open on two computers or in two browser tabs on the same computer.
Where are my older notes?
Notes written in the previous notes editor are kept in the 'Notes' tab on the expanded treatment item. In the patient's history and in exported PDFs, the older note and the new note show together, separated by a line.
Can I record or dictate into a treatment item note?
Recording and AI note features are not available in the treatment item note. You can record a clinical note using the appointment notes. Learn more here.
