🚨 Important: The ability for nurses and dental assistants to edit perio exams is currently rolling out across Dentally practices and therefore you may not yet be able to see this.

You can allow nurses and dental assistants to create and edit periodontal exams on behalf of a practitioner.

Exams are always saved under a practitioner, with a full audit trail showing who created or edited them.

Who can be granted access to edit perio exams?

This feature is controlled by a grantable permission and can be enabled for:

  • User level 2 and above

  • Users who are not practitioners (e.g. dental assistants, nurses)

To grant the user permission:

  1. Go to 'Settings' and 'Users'

  2. Select the 'Edit' option next to the user you wish to give access

  3. Go to 'Security'

  4. Find the 'Can create and edit periodontal exams' tickbox and check this.

  5. Save changes

Selecting a practitioner

When creating or editing a perio exam as a nurse or dental assistant, you must select a practitioner to complete the exam

  • A default practitioner is selected where possible:

    • Patient’s hygienist if one is set

    • Otherwise, the patient’s dentist

  • If no default exists, a practitioner must be selected manually

If no practitioner is selected during data entry, you will be prompted to choose one when you save the exam.

Auditing perio exams

All activity is recorded in the patient’s Audit tab, including:

  • Who created the perio exam

  • Who made edits to the perio exam

  • Which practitioner the perio exam is assigned to

This ensures full clinical traceability when it comes to perio exams.
