What is the best setup for using Kiosk?

🚨 Important: Kiosk is not optimised to support multiple waiting rooms.

There are three stages to getting yourself set up to use Kiosk effectively.

1. Buy the right tablet device

  • We recommend an Apple or Android device, updated to the latest version, and using the latest version of Google Chrome or Safari. See our detailed guidance on device configuration here. Other browsers are not officially supported, and we would not recommend devices which do not allow Google Chrome or Safari, such as Amazon Fire tablets.

  • It is essential that your device is set to the correct time. Set your device time to automatic so it is always correct and accounts for seasonal adjustments.

2. Choose and set up a suitable stand or mount

Your device should be mounted somewhere visible near your entrance, to ensure patients can see it. This ensures it is the first thing your patients see when they walk in, and reduces the number of people walking up to speak to reception.

The type of stand you choose is down to personal preference, based on your practice's size and needs. For larger practices with higher footfall, you may benefit from multiple stands to avoid queues.

Floor stands

  • Suitable for most practice sizes

  • More cost-effective, while ensuring visibility

  • For larger practices, you could have multiple stands/devices

Examples:

  • Durable πŸ’° - tried and tested - available on Amazon

  • Bouncepad πŸ’°πŸ’° - tried and tested

  • Macklocks πŸ’°πŸ’°

Ensure your device is:

  • Wired into a power source for continuous charging

  • Has brightness set to maximum

  • Has auto-lock off so the screen stays on all the time

  • Signposted/explained so patients understand what they need to do without needing to ask

Remember, Kiosk is only optimised for single waiting rooms.

3. Pair your device

Once you are set up with the right device and mount/stand, you will need to pair it with Dentally. This connects the device to your patient database, so you can start checking patients in.
